  Assignment:  BB King Cover!

When I was assigned the cover shot of legendary B.B. King there was no chance to reshoot: I was only allowed to shoot during the first 3 songs. 

I had one shot at getting the cover. What I wanted was a full-frame Nikon D3X (because of its excellent high ISO/low noise capability) as well as a fast lens, like the VR NIKKOR 300mm f/2.8, which would permit me to shoot under low-light conditions at a relatively fast shutter speed.  That's what I wanted....but what I had instead was a 6-megapixel Nikon D100 body and a 70-300mm kit lens.

A fast sharp lens would have allowed me to hand-hold the camera so that I could position myself quickly in the rapidly changing light conditions, but that wasn't an option with my setup. 

I knew that motion blur and background noise would eliminate the possibility of publishable results, so I was forced to use a tripod in a crowded setting:  not my preferred method of shooting. A D3X at a higher
