Sepioteuthis sepioidea

A reef squid flashes in rainbow colors. Squid possess specialized pigment cells called chromatophores that allow them to change colors and patterns in the blink of an eye.

Roatan, Honduras

Sea Facts:

The smallest squid measure in inches; in 2002 a squid weighing 550 pounds (250 kilograms) and was found in two pieces on a beach. Though her longest tentacles had been lost, estimates based on the squid's remaining arms suggest she would have been 50 feet in length.
