Queen Parrotfish
Scarus vetula

This queen parrotfish is actually a "king."  Supermales like this one begin as females, with less dramatic coloration, and exhibit this vivid color change in their "terminal" phase.

Bonaire, Dutch Antilles

Sea Facts:

Parrotfish spin underwater pajamas at night. When the sun sets, they secrete a mucous cocoon around their bodies, and "cover up" for the night.
